Abstract

Despite the power of EPR as a technique, many are unfamiliar with the aspects of how it works and what it can do, if they’re aware of it at all. In this presentation I aim to whet your apatite for the wonderful technique of Electron Paramagnetic Resonance. We will briefly discuss the theoretical background of EPR including the Zeeman interaction, how that translates into signal, and what one can do with that signal. We will also discuss instrumentation; getting into how the spectrometer actually does what it does.

Finally, I will provide some select examples of how EPR has been used in the research to deepen our understanding of the electron. As my former advisor is fond of saying, “let’s learn how to spell EPR”.
