Researchers at the Department of Chemistry strive to develop better chemical compounds and processes and to determine how new solutions will influence environment and climate.

Researchers at the Department are searching for fundamental insights as well as mature inventions. The UCPH Department of Chemistry is in collaboration with industrial partners as well as top-range universities in Denmark and internationally

 

If you wish to apply for a starting grant with the Department of Chemistry (CHEM) as host, please first contact the head of the section you wish to be affiliated with.

Well in advance of the deadline! Provide a:
  • CV
  • List of publications
  • A short description of proposed research activity and how you will be able to contribute to department teaching.

The Head of Section will then consult the section, and if the section is willing to host the activity (and can find space for it), the request is forwarded for discussion between all heads of sections and the CHEM Management.

Generally, CHEM cannot co-finance such grants; this may only be possible in exceptional cases.

The applicant must therefore ensure that all salaries can be covered from external funding (e.g., for ERC grants, a financial plan must be prepared not only for the PI but also for the PhD students to be enrolled on how to cover the workload dedicated to teaching obligations/course work, which is not covered by the ERC grant).

Research sections

Inorganic Chemistry

Designing, synthesizing and modelling metal complexes for single-molecule magnetism, metal templated synthesis, and small-molecule-activation catalysis.

Organic Chemistry

Organic molecules are designed and synthesized in order to obtain or screen for specific properties and to elucidate intermolecular interactions and reactivity in both solution and gas phase.

Nano Chemistry

Nano particle catalysis for development of sustainable energy, studies of molecular self assembling in artificial and natural systems, molecular electronics, fluorescent molecules and materials and imaging techniques.

Chemical Biology

The interface between synthetic chemistry, biology and biophysics. We focus on understanding biological and chemical phenomena at the nano-scale and explore the application of this knowledge to biomedicine. 

Biological Chemistry

S molecular understanding of biological systems, among these protein structure determination, interactions of metal ions with biomolecules, and modeling of complex biological systems.

Physical Chemistry

Fundamental experimental and theoretical research in gas-phase chemistry, the chemistry at interfaces, and condensed phase, often inspired by environmental or atmospheric chemistry issues and protein folding.

Center for High Entropy Alloy Catalysis (CHEAC)

CHEAC targets electrochemical reactions for the production of renewable and high-value chemicals where the reaction energy is provided by electricity, thus paving the way for a greener society.

Center for Geometrically Engineered Cellular Systems (GEC)

An overarching goal of synthetic biology is to control and direct the behaviour of living cells. At its most basic level, this can be accomplished by modifying the genetic code of the cell.

Center for Optimized Oligo Escape and Control of Disease (COE)

The vision of COE is to resolve a main bottleneck that prevents the widespread implementation of oligonucleotide pharmaceutics, and their limited (~<5%)  endosomal escape.

The Novo Nordisk Foundation CO2 Research Center (CORC)

Research of the Novo Nordisk Foundation CO2 Research Center is at the interface between life sciences and chemical sciences to develop new fundamental understandings and early technology platforms for capturing and converting CO2 for storage and utilisation.

Nano-Science Center (NSC)

Enroll in the BSc programme in Nanoscience at the University of Copenhagen and obtain knowledge about structures at the atomic, molecular and supramolecular level, which can be used, for example, in the development of new materials, electronic devices and medicine.
